We're flying up to Yarmouth, ME on Thursday to pick up the Ishtar, a beautiful 38' Chris Craft Commander. The boat is an example of one of Chris Craft's finest crafts. The trip is expected to take about 5 days, provided we have fair weather. From Yarmouth, we'll travel to the Cape Cod Canal and then past Block Island to Long Island, NY.
We hope to travel into the New York Harbor and see the Statue of Liberty. On to the New Jersey Shore, we'll round Cape May, up the Delaware Bay to the C&D Canal. Heading south again on the Chesapeake Bay with a stop over in Annapolis, we'll continue up the Potomac River to Ishtar's new home in Alexandria, VA (back in fresh water!)
Be sure to check in frequently over the next week, as we'll be posting geo-tags, pictures and additional information about our trip.
More information about Ishtar from Joe Attura, prior owner
Ishtar (formerly Curt Radford’s Cabin Fever) is one of the nicest original 38’s afloat. Shed kept in Wisconsin from 1967 until 2005. Excellent gelcoat, chrome, gauges, controls, etc. Real mahogany interior. No blisters. In 2006 the 1997 fuel injected Mercruiser 7.4’s (340 shaft hp) were pulled to rebuild the engine room. Work included (all done by one of Maine’s top yards): Engine room/lazarette painted; new 5kw Westerbeke generator with new exhaust system, Parker fuel lines, and wiring; upgraded 5” exhaust systems for main engines; new Parker fuel lines and wiring; Racor fuel filter system installed for all engines; engine stringers rebuilt with mahogany, epoxy and aluminum channel; larger 1.5” ss shafts, shaft logs and dripless shaft seals fitted; new 12vdc engine room switches, wiring and sealed batteries. In addition, the mechanical steering system was removed and replaced with a commercial grade hydraulic system, new DQX Nibral 4-blade props were fitted, and she got a new head. Recent AC system with digital control. Recent Garmin GPS and VHF’s. CC trim tabs.
Ishtar runs like a new boat, better and faster than when she left the CC factory. Always draws a crowd. She offers the rare combination of classic beauty and the low maintenance, reliability and power of a modern boat. She’s quick: 25 mph cruise @ 3200 rpm, 34+ mph @ 4250 WOT, and the fuel injected 450 hour Mercs are fuel efficient.
